Signage

• Certificate of Appropriateness for HW/CE

  All signs in HW or CE district require a Certificate of Appropriateness.

• Electronic message change frequency60 seconds

  Electronic message board signs shall not change message more frequently than once every 60 seconds.

• Freestanding sign setbackSetbackThe distance a building must be held back from a lot line.5 ft

  All freestanding signs shall be set back from any property line by at least five feet.

• Sign illumination restrictions

  Light from illuminated sign shall not cause direct glare into or upon any building or property owner other than the related property; shall not create traffic hazard.

• Sign permit required

  Sign permit required prior to display and erection of any sign except as provided in 18-8-4.

• ProhibitedProhibitedNot allowed in the district at all, short of rezoning or a variance. signs

  Prohibited: signs attached to vegetation, simulating traffic control, vehicle/trailer signs, animated/feather flags, flashing signs, illuminated tubing, signs emitting smoke/sound, electronic moving images, strings of pennants within 50 ft of public way, moored balloons, temporary signs used as permanent, off-premises signs unless permitted, signs on public land without authorization, roof signs, neon except behind windows, signs in vision triangle, window signs >25% of window area, signs with clearance <8 ft above walkway or <15 ft above driveway.

• Temporary sign sizes by speed limit

  Temporary signs: up to 16 sq ft and 6 ft height for roads <=25 mph; up to 32 sq ft and 8 ft for >25<55 mph; up to 64 sq ft and 16 ft for >=55 mph.

• Window sign area limit25 percent

  Window signs on each window or door shall not exceed 25% of total area of window or door.
