Floodplain
- Anchoring required
New construction and substantial improvements shall be according to section 54-502 of this article and the VA USBC, and anchored to prevent flotation, collapse or lateral movement of the structure.
- Enclosure opening requirements
Provide a minimum of two openings on different sides... total net area of all openings must be at least one square inch for each square foot of enclosed area... bottom of all required openings shall be no higher than one foot above the adjacent grade.

The floodway district is in an AE zone and is delineated, for purposes of this article, using the criterion that certain areas within the floodplain must be capable of carrying the waters of the one-percent annual chance flood without increasing the water surface elevation of that flood more than one foot at any point. No floodways have been computed in Lancaster County and the Town of Kilmarnock.
