Signage

  • Changeable sign standards

    One changeable sign per lot in commercial/industrial districts. Message changes no more than once every 10 seconds.

  • Exempt signs

    Governmental signs, changeable message content, small signs (portable max 12 sq ft, minor max 3 sq ft), temporary signs, memorial plaques, flag signs, window signs, murals.

  • Flag sign standards

    Residential/planned/DT: max 2 per parcel, 60 sq ft, 30 ft height. C-1/C-2/industrial: max 3 per parcel, 96 sq ft, 45 ft height. Setback = longest dimension of pole.

  • Illumination limits

    Max 1000 nits day, 500 nits night, with automatic brightness control. No light shining into traffic or residential dwellings.

  • Sign maintenance

    Signs must be kept in good condition; violations corrected within 10 days.

  • May continue if legal, cannot be enlarged, moved, or restored if damaged >50%.

  • Signs on natural features, in ROW, obstructing vision, simulating traffic signs, obstructing egress, on vehicles, above roofline, flashing, emitting sound/smoke, etc.

  • Projecting sign standards

    Min 8 ft clearance over walkways, max 4 ft projection, min 14 ft over vehicular areas.

  • Sign area measurement

    Area measured by smallest rectangle, circle, or triangle enclosing sign face. Multi-sided signs: largest face if back-to-back within 42 inches, else sum of visible faces.

  • Height measured from base at average grade to top of highest attached component.

  • Minimum setback from any right-of-way is one-half the height of the sign.

  • Temporary sign standards

    Must be maintained, removed within 10 days after event, not illuminated.

  • Window sign standards

    In DT district, first floor windows max 2 sq ft per foot of frontage.
