Parking

• Boat and RV storage

  Boats and recreational vehicles must be parked on improved surface.

• Compact parking space dimensions8 ft width

  Up to 20% of required spaces may be reduced to 8 ft x 16 ft for compact cars.

• Drainage

  Parking areas drained to eliminate standing water.

• Entrance/exit limits

  Generally not more than one entrance and one exit along any one street.

• Fleet vehicle screening

  Fleet vehicles shall be screened or parked to block visibility from streets or adjacent properties.

• Handicap parking

  Handicap accessible spaces per Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.

• Improved surface required

  All driveways, aisles, and parking areas shall have an improved surface (concrete, asphalt, pavers, etc.).

• Landscaping when adjacent to residential

  Parking areas for commercial/industrial adjacent to residential shall be landscaped per division 2.

• Lighting

  Adequate lighting provided per division 1.

• Preferred parking location

  Off-street parking areas preferred to rear or side of structure.

  Off-street parking spaces shall be a minimum width of nine feet and a minimum length of 18 feet.

• Pervious materials allowed

  Pervious or semi-pervious parking lot surfacing may be approved except on industrial sites with petroleum spill risk.

• Parking reduction/increase

  Parking may be reduced if capacity decreases; increases of 10% or more require additional spaces.

• Remote parking

  Remote parking allowed by conditional use permit within 600 feet, with recorded covenant and sidewalk.

• Separation from walkways

  Parking spaces separated from walkways, sidewalks, streets, or alleys by landscape buffer, wall, fence, or curbing.

• Shared parking

  Shared parking may meet up to 75% of required spaces if peak periods differ and uses are within 600 feet.
