General provisions

201 rules that bind every district rather than one — sign regulations, parking, floodplain and the rest of the code’s citywide chapters.

Sec. 58-8863 standards

Along any street frontage of a nonresidential development, a landscaped strip of at least ten feet in width shall be provided, exclusive of driveways and access ways. The landscaped strip shall contain at least one canopy tree for each 40 feet of street frontage, or fraction thereof. Street trees shall be a minimum caliper of two inches at planting and shall be of a species approved by the town.

Sec. 58-8862 standards

Front yards shall be planted with deciduous trees having a caliper of not less than two inches at the time of planting and at the rate of one tree per 50 feet of linear street frontage.

Sec. 58-906, 58-907, 58-908, 58-910, 58-912, 58-913, 58-914, 58-915, 58-9169 standards

Off-street parking spaces shall be provided in accordance with the following schedule... Where the calculation of required parking spaces results in a fractional number, any fraction of one-half or more shall be rounded up... Required parking spaces for single-family and two-family dwellings shall be located on the same lot as the dwelling... No required parking space shall be located in a required front yard in any residential district, except on a driveway... No driveway or curb cut shall exceed 30 feet in width... All off-street parking areas shall be paved... Any parking area containing ten or more spaces shall be screened from adjoining residential districts by a fence, wall, or landscaped buffer of at least six feet in height... Parking areas containing 20 or more spaces shall provide interior landscaping equal to at least five percent of the paved area... Any nonresidential use with a gross floor area of 10,000 square feet or more shall provide off-street loading spaces... Each loading space shall be at least 12 feet wide, 50 feet long, and shall have a vertical clearance of at least 14 feet.

The minimum number of off-street parking spaces required for particular uses shall be as set forth in the following schedule. ... Required off-street parking spaces shall be not less than nine feet in width and 18 feet in length, except that spaces arranged parallel ... shall be not less than eight feet in width and 22 feet in length. ... Parking areas containing five or more spaces ... shall be paved ... Off-street parking spaces and access aisles serving uses other than single-family detached, single-family attached and two-family dwellings shall not be located within any required front yard or required side yard along a street in any residential district. ... Off-street loading spaces shall be of adequate dimensions ... not less than ten feet in width or less than 25 feet in length, nor shall the under clearance ... be less than 14 feet.

Sec. 58-912 standards

Any violation of the provisions of this chapter shall be a misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by a fine of not less than $10.00, nor more than $1,000.00

The following signs, displays and devices shall be exempt... No sign shall be erected, constructed, or maintained in a manner that obstructs visibility... Portable signs shall be permitted only in the B-1, B-2, B-3, B-4, DR-1, and M-1 Districts... Banner signs shall be permitted only in the B-1, B-2, B-3, B-4, DR-1, and M-1 Districts... The following signs shall be permitted in all districts: One wall sign not exceeding 12 square feet... In the R-AG, R-1, R-2, R-3, and R-4 Districts, the following signs shall be permitted: One wall sign not exceeding four square feet... In the B-1 and DR-1 Districts... In the B-2 and B-4 Districts... In the B-3 District... In the M-1 District... A nonconforming use may have one sign not exceeding 32 square feet... No sign shall be erected, constructed, or altered without a zoning permit...

Sec. 58-938, 58-939, 58-940, 58-9415 standards

No sign shall be permitted to be nailed or otherwise affixed to any existing sign structure ... Animated signs ... shall not be permitted in any district. ... No off-premises or billboard signs shall be permitted ... Electronic changeable copy signs ... Maximum size for electronic changeable copy sign is 45 square feet. ... Portable signs ... shall not exceed 32 square feet in area. ... Banner signs ... total area ... shall not exceed one square foot for each two linear feet of building frontage.

Sec. 58-9426 standards

a. Identification signs not exceeding in the aggregate 20 square feet in area. Such signs shall be attached flat against a main building or may include one freestanding sign.

In addition to the regulations set forth in this division applicable to signs in all districts, the following signs shall be permitted and the following regulations shall apply in the R-AG, R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 Residential Districts and the MHP Districts:

Sec. 58-9471 standards

One sign identifying a nonconforming use located in a residential district shall be permitted, provided that such sign shall be attached flat against the building occupied by the use and shall not exceed eight square feet in area.

A nonconforming sign, as defined in section 58-3, shall be permitted to remain subject to the restrictions and limitations set forth in this section.

Sec. 58-9491 standards

No sign, unless specifically exempted by the provisions of this division, shall be erected or installed unless a zoning permit for such sign has been issued by the zoning administrator
