Landscaping & trees

  • No clear cutting shall be permitted except when it is shown that the complete removal of vegetation is necessary for the development of the site. Clear cutting is defined as removal of large areas of existing vegetation in areas not necessary for the construction of buildings and/or the infrastructure associated with the development.

  • Native tree planting encouraged

    This ordinance strongly encourages the planting of trees native to eastern Virginia and/or adaptable to the coastal conditions and climate of James City County.

  • Tree removal limited to development area

    All tree removal shall be limited to the area required for the practical development of the site.
