An accessory dwelling unit is an attached or detached residential dwelling unit with complete independent living facilities, located on the same parcel as a primary dwelling.
From the ordinance
"Accessory dwelling unit" or "ADU" shall mean an attached or a detached residential dwelling unit which provides complete independent living facilities for one or more persons.
