A secondary dwelling unit either in or added to a detached single-family dwelling, or in a separate freestanding accessory structure on the same lot as the principal dwelling, for use as a complete, independent living facility with provision within the accessory apartment for cooking, eating, sanitation and sleeping. Such a dwelling is an accessory use and is clearly subordinate to the principal dwelling and shall conform to all use, setback and other requirements of this appendix.
