  • Lowest floor elevation

    New construction or substantial improvement of any commercial, industrial, or nonresidential building shall have the lowest floor, including basement, elevated above the base flood elevation.

  • Existing structure modification50 pct

    Modifications less than 50% of market value must be elevated/floodproofed; 50% or more must fully comply.

  • Manufactured homes shall be elevated on a permanent foundation such that the lowest floor is elevated to or above the base flood elevation and anchored.

  • Zoning permit required

    All uses, activities, and development occurring within any floodplain district shall be undertaken only upon the issuance of a zoning permit.

  • Recreational vehicle placement180 days

    Recreational vehicles must be on site for fewer than 180 consecutive days and ready for highway use, or meet manufactured home requirements.

  • Site plan information

    Site plans and permit applications must include lowest floor elevation, floodproofing elevation, 100-year flood elevation, and topographic info.

  • Base flood elevation data for subdivisions

    Base flood elevation data shall be provided for subdivision proposals exceeding 50 lots or five acres.

  • Subdivision flood damage minimization

    Subdivision proposals must be consistent with minimizing flood damage, have public utilities located to minimize damage, and adequate drainage.

  • Utility design criteria

    Sanitary sewer, water, drainage, and utilities must be designed to minimize flood damage.

  • Watercourse alteration permit

    Prior to any proposed alteration or relocation of any channels or watercourse, a permit shall be obtained from the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the Virginia State Water Control Board, and the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.
