The height of a building is measured from the average elevation of the ground surface along a building's front. For a flat roof, the measurement goes to the roof's highest point; for a mansard roof, the measurement is taken to the deck line; and for a gable, hip, or gambrel roof, the measurement goes to the mean height between the eaves and ridge of a gable, hip, or gambrel roof.
