  • Floor Area Definition

    The floor area of a building is the sum of the gross horizontal areas of all floors of a building or other enclosed structure, measured from the outside perimeter of the exterior walls and/or the centerline of interior walls. Includes habitable space, stairways counted once, excludes mechanical rooms ≤2% of gross floor area, bay windows with 30-inch clearance, usable open space, solar panels, and in non-residential buildings, parking areas below grade. For non-residential uses, includes covered walkways and courtyards, excludes arcades and porticoes.
