Floodplain

- Floodproofing for nonresidential structures
Where a nonresidential structure is intended to be made watertight below the base flood level, a registered professional engineer or architect shall develop and/or review structural design specifications and plans for the construction, and shall certify that the design and methods of construction are in accordance with accepted standards of practice.
- Lowest floor elevation for residential structures
New construction or substantial improvement of any residential structure (including manufactured homes) shall have the lowest floor, including basement, elevated to or above the design flood level.
- Special permit required for all development
All uses, activities, and development occurring within any floodplain area shall be undertaken only upon the issuance of a special permit.
- Subdivision proposals must minimize flood damage
All subdivision proposals shall be consistent with the need to minimize flood damage; shall have public utilities and facilities located and constructed to minimize flood damage; and shall have adequate drainage provided to reduce exposure to flood hazards.
- Utility design to minimize flood damage
All new or replacement sanitary sewer facilities and private package sewage treatment plans shall be designed to minimize or eliminate infiltration of floodwaters into the system and discharges from the system into floodwaters.
