The board of architectural review shall be composed of seven members who are residents of the city and have resided in the city for at least one year immediately preceding their appointment. Preference may be given to property owners in the two historic districts or owners of a listed 100 year old building. One member shall be a property owner in the Old and Historic Alexandria District and one member shall be a property owner in the Parker-Gray District. Two members shall be architects. All members shall have a demonstrated knowledge, professional experience, or education in history, architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, real estate, or building construction. The members shall be appointed by city council for terms of three years.
