Chapter 6.36 - Small Agricultural Animals#R-1
6.36.010 - Purpose and applicability.#
(a) Purpose#
The purpose of this chapter is to address the raising and keeping of small agricultural animals and the areas in which the raising and keeping of small agricultural animals are allowed. It is the intent of this section to allow for the keeping of small agricultural animals based upon the provisions herein.
(b) Applicability#
The raising and keeping of small agricultural animals shall only take place in compliance with the requirements of this section on properties zoned for single family residential.

6.36.020 - Definitions.#
"Accessory structure" means for the purposes of this chapter, a structure or building, no larger than 120 square feet in size§, no taller than 16-feet in height§, designed and built to store small animals.
"Prohibited small agricultural animals" means, for the purposes of this chapter roosters, turkeys, geese, peafowl, or crowing birds.
"Small agricultural animal" means, for the purposes of this chapter, chicken hens and rabbits.
"Small agricultural animal raising and keeping" (land use) means the keeping, feeding or raising of animals, subordinate to the land use.

6.36.030 - Allowed land use.#
The keeping of small agricultural animals is allowed in the R-1 Single-Family Residential zoning district, and lands zoned for single-family residential located within an adopted specific plan area.

6.36.040 - Location provisions.#
(a) Minimum lot size—5,000 square feet.#
(b) Small agricultural animals are allowed to be kept in a residence or garage.§#
(c) Small agricultural animals are allowed to be kept in a rear or side yard a minimum of 15-feet from property lines.§#
(d) Small agricultural animals are allowed to be kept in an accessory structure a minimum of 15-feet from property lines.§#

6.36.050 - Number of small agricultural animals allowed.#
(a) Chicken hens—No more than five.§#
(b) Rabbits—No more than five over the age of six months.§#
(c) Combined—No more than five.§#

6.36.060 - Prohibited small agricultural animals.#
The following animals, for the purpose of this chapter are prohibited—roosters, turkeys, geese, peafowl, and crowing birds§.

6.36.070 - Permitting.#
A permit is not required for the keeping of small agricultural animals.§ If applicable, a permit is required for any utility services proposed to the accessory structure.
