Density

  • Maximum run/cage density per bird

    Runs and cages for chickens: max 4 sq ft per bird; for geese/turkey: 15 sq ft; for emus/ostriches: 100 sq ft.

Other

Setback

  • Structures for housing permitted fowl shall be located only in the rear or side yard and shall adhere to the same setbacks as non-commercial kennels. Also set back at least 5 feet from principal dwelling, 100 feet from RPA stream, 50 feet from other streams.

  • Separation from private well

    Cages, coops and runs on properties not served by public water shall be separated from private well head: 50 ft for class 3A/B well, 100 ft for class 3C/4 well, reducible to 50 ft with best management practices.

From the ordinance

The keeping of chickens, pigeons, doves, and other domestic fowl shall be permitted by right on any A-1 zoned property of a minimum size of one acre and by Special Use Permit on any SR-1, SR-3 or SR-5 zoned property of a minimum size of one acre.
