From the ordinance

Natural open space shall mean open space with natural resource benefits within the boundaries of a development such as native forests; topographic features; critical habitats for threatened and endangered species and species of special concern; natural creeks, streams and lakes; and natural wetlands that are set aside as an area to remain undisturbed during development and in perpetuity for the preservation of the natural resources contained therein and for the passive use and enjoyment of the residents of the development and/or the public at large.
