Any fill proposed to be deposited in the floodway must be shown to have some beneficial purpose and the amount thereof not greater than is necessary to achieve that purpose. Such fill shall be protected against erosion by riprap, vegetative cover, and/or bulkheading.
- No encroachment without demonstration
No encroachments, including fill, new construction, substantial improvements or other development shall be permitted unless it has been demonstrated through hydrologic and hydraulic engineering practice that the proposed encroachment would not result in any increase in the 100-year flood elevation.
- Planning commission approval required
No permit shall be issued for the construction or erection of any structure or for any development within the floodway zone until the plans have been submitted to the planning commission and approval is given in writing.
- Structure orientation to floodflow
Whenever possible, structures shall be constructed with the longitudinal axis parallel to the direction of floodflow, and so far as practicable, structures shall be placed approximately on the same floodflow lines as those of adjacent structures.
