Landscaping & trees

  • Canopy tree ratio8 spaces per tree

    There shall be at least one canopy tree for every eight parking spaces not contained within a covered parking structure or garage when a site plan or subdivision plan indicates more than four parking spaces.

  • Maximum distance to tree120 ft

    No parking space shall be located more than 120 linear feet from a tree provided on the site.

  • Maximum understory tree percentage10 pct

    No more than ten percent of vehicular use area trees shall be under story or ornamental species.

  • Each tree shall be surrounded by a minimum of 120 square feet of unpaved planting area.

Other

  • Island at end of row

    There shall be a landscape island at the end of every row of parking spaces.

  • Minimum distance from pavement3.5 ft

    any trees or shrubs planted within the unpaved planting area shall be planted a minimum of three and one-half feet from the edge of pavement.

  • Any vehicular use area island used for landscaping, other than groundcover or turf, shall contain a minimum of 120 square feet of unpaved planting area.

  • Minimum planting area width8 ft

    The minimum width of a planting area with a tree shall be eight feet.

  • Plant materials shall be planted and maintained at a minimum height of 36 inches above the surface elevation of the adjacent vehicular use area.

  • Minimum shrub distance from curb2.5 ft

    Shrubs shall not be planted within 2.5 feet of the back of the curb.

  • Minimum shrub spacing3 ft

    Shrubs shall be planted no less than three feet on center.
