Lighting

• Floodlights and spotlights

  Floodlights attached to light poles that illuminate site/building are prohibited. Permitted floodlights must be shielded and aimed away from adjoining properties.

• Maximum ground mounted fixture heightMaximum heightThe tallest a building may be, given in feet, in storeys, or both — whichever binds first.4 ft

  Wherever possible, illumination of outdoor seating areas, building entrances, and walkways is accomplished by use of ground mounted fixtures not more than four feet in height.

• Maximum nonresidential outdoor lighting heightMaximum heightThe tallest a building may be, given in feet, in storeys, or both — whichever binds first.15 ft

  On nonresidential properties, outdoor lighting is no greater than 15 feet in height, whether mounted on poles or walls or by other means.

  Light fixtures in parking lots containing between 100 and 250 spaces are no more than 25 feet high.

  In any event, where visible from residential properties, fixtures do not exceed 20 feet above grade.

• Maximum spill light onto other uses1 fc

  Spillage of indirect light onto other uses is 1.0 foot candles or less, measured at the boundary line.

  Spillage of indirect light onto adjacent residential properties is 0.1 foot candles or less, measured at the boundary line.

• Minimum distance of lighting fixtures from property line10 ft

  All exterior lighting fixtures are located a minimum of ten feet from a property line or five feet from a right-of-way line.

• Minimum distance of lighting fixtures from right-of-way5 ft

  All exterior lighting fixtures are located a minimum of five feet from a right-of-way line.

  Light types of limited spectral emission such as low-pressure sodium or mercury vapor lights are prohibited.

• Shielding for fixtures over 60 watts or 100 lumens

  Light fixtures in excess of 60 watts or 100 lumens use full cut-off lenses, hoods or other shielding to prevent glare or spillover.

• Outdoor sports field lighting

  All fixtures equipped with glare control, aimed within playing area; hours of operation not exceed one hour after end of game/event.

• Maximum uniformity ratio in business districts10 ratio

  Ratio of maximum to minimum lighting does not exceed 10:1 in business districts.

• Maximum uniformity ratio in parking lots3 ratio

  Ratio of maximum to minimum lighting does not exceed 3:1 in parking lots.

• Maximum uniformity ratio in residential districts15 ratio

  Ratio of maximum to minimum lighting does not exceed 15:1 in residential districts.

• Wall-mounted light shielding

  Wall-mounted lights (other than entry lights of 100 watts or less) must be fully shielded luminaries to direct light downward and prevent visibility from adjacent residential property or public street.

• Wall pack light restrictions

  Wall packs on buildings only at entrances, fully shielded, low wattage (preferably 100W or lower), not visible from off-site.
