Signage
- A-frame signs in commercial districts
A-frame signs in commercial zoning districts (B-1 and B-2) must not be more than an aggregate of twelve (12) square feet, do not require a permit, may only be displayed during business hours, and must maintain at least four (4) feet of clear passage.
Any sign lawfully in existence on the date of enactment of this article may be maintained even though it does not conform with the provisions of this article.
Inflatable, moving or rotating, animated, or flashing signs; off-premises signs; signs on roof or wall extending beyond perimeter; signs illuminated with sodium halide lights; abandoned sign structures; changeable copy signs; signs affixed to structures/trees/rocks/poles; signs obstructing traffic; portable signs except A-frame; signs preventing ingress/egress; signs emitting smoke/vapors/sound/odor/flames; mirrors; signs on vehicles; signs in right-of-way; mobile billboards; sexually oriented signs; signs advertising illegal activities.
- Sign area computation
The surface area of any sign permitted under this article is determined by measuring the entire face of the sign including any wall work incidental to its decoration, but excluding support elements whose sole purpose and function is to support the sign.
- Sign lighting
No sign shall be illuminated in such a way that light may shine into on-coming traffic, affect highway safety, or shine directly into a residential dwelling unit zoned R-1, R-2, R-3, or R-4.
- Sign maintenance
All signs shall be maintained in good condition and remain structurally safe. Any sign that has deteriorated to a state of peeling, cracking, splitting, fading, or rusting is in violation.
- Sign permit required
Except when otherwise exempted by this article, no sign shall be erected, constructed, posted, painted, altered, or relocated, unless and until a zoning permit has been issued by the zoning administrator.
- Sign substitution
Wherever this article permits a sign with commercial content, non-commercial content is also permitted subject to the same requirements.
- Street banners
Banners shall not be displayed for more than three (3) weeks total, including no more than one (1) week after any associated event.
- Temporary signs in business districts
Temporary signs in business zoning districts (B-1, B-2, and B-3) shall be either freestanding signs, wall signs, or banner signs, and require a sign permit. The signs may be displayed for up to forty-five (45) consecutive days.
- Temporary signs in R-1 and R-4
Temporary signs in residential zoning districts (R-1 and R-4) shall be either freestanding signs or window signs. Temporary signs shall not exceed sixteen (16) square feet in area total per property. No sign shall exceed six (6) feet in height, except window signs. Window signs shall not obstruct more than twenty-five (25) percent of the total area of all windows on each building façade.
- Temporary signs in R-2 and R-3
Temporary signs in residential zoning districts (R-2 and R-3) shall be either freestanding signs, wall signs, window signs or banner signs. Temporary signs shall not exceed sixteen (16) square feet in area total per property. No sign shall exceed six (6) feet in height, except window signs. Window signs shall not obstruct more than twenty-five (25) percent of the total area of all windows on each building façade.
- Temporary signs in residential districts
Temporary signs may be erected or constructed without a permit in residential zoning districts; however, all applicable code requirements in this chapter shall still apply.

Signs not expressly permitted as being allowed under this article, by specific requirements in another portion of this chapter, or otherwise expressly allowed by the town are forbidden.
