Signage

• Awning/canopy sign heightMaximum heightThe tallest a building may be, given in feet, in storeys, or both — whichever binds first. restriction

  No part of any awning or canopy containing a sign shall extend above the height of the bottom sill of any second story window of the building facade to which it is attached.

• Building-mounted sign clearance10 ft

  Any building-mounted sign shall be attached to provide a minimum clearance of ten feet above the adjoining sidewalk or ground.

• Double-faced sign area calculation

  in the case of a double-faced sign, only one sign face shall be counted in the calculated sign area

• Non-commercial messages allowed

  The content of message, commercial or non-commercial, shall not be regulated by this division. Any sign that can be displayed under the provisions of this division may contain a non-commercial message.

• On-premises sign requirement

  Signs permitted by the provisions of this division and as specifically allowed in Table 7-35-1 are intended, and shall be required, to be on-premises signs.

• Projecting sign maximum extension3 ft

  Any projecting sign shall not extend more than three feet, in whole or in part, from the building face or wall to which it is attached.

• Sign permit required

  It shall be unlawful for any person to erect, install, structurally alter, modify, relocate, or replace any sign or sign structure, except for those signs specifically exempted in section 7-37, without first obtaining a zoning permit.

• Sign permit validity

  A zoning permit for a sign shall become null and void if the work described in such permit has not begun within six months from the date it was issued.

• Window sign maximum area50 pct

  the surface area of window signs, whether temporary or permanent, shall not exceed 50 percent of the window or door surface area to which they are applied or attached
