• Distance for adjacent locality notice0.5 miles

  If the subject property is located within 0.5 miles of the boundary of an adjoining locality, that locality's Chief Administrative Officer or designee.

• Distance for communications tower notice1,500 ft

  The Planning Department shall notify in writing all owners of property within 1,500 feet of the subject property for a communications tower.

• Distance for intersection notice100 ft

  If the subject property is located at, or within 100 feet of, the intersection of any two or more roads or within 100 feet of the intersection of the right-of-way of any two railroads, the owners of property situated at all corners of the intersection.

• Distance for military base/airport notice3,000 ft

  If the subject property is located within 3,000 feet of the boundary of a military base, installation, airport, excluding armories operated by the Virginia National Guard, the commander of the applicable military operation.

• Maximum lots for newspaper advertisement250 lots

  For any proposed amendment of the zoning ordinance involving a change in zoning map classification of 250 or fewer lots of land, the newspaper advertisement shall include the street address or tax map parcel number of the lots.

• Minimum lot size for notice exemption11,500 sqftsq ftSquare feet. An acre is 43,560 sq ft; a typical suburban lot is 7,000–10,000.

  Except for the owners of subdivision lots having less than 11,500 square feet, the Planning Department shall notify in writing the owners of property which may be impacted by a zoning ordinance text amendment that would decrease the allowable dwelling unit density on their lot.
