Parking

  • Commercial, institutional and municipal garages design

    Commercial, institutional and municipal garages shall be designed to blend in with the neighborhood and shall abide by building design standards.

  • When a corner lot is used for parking, a three-foot garden wall that may incorporate seating may be used in place of hedges and screen planting.

  • Parking location relative to building

    Parking shall be located in the rear or side of buildings. In no case will parking lots be allowed to be placed in front of a building, or be set any farther forward on the lot than the main structure on a lot.

  • Pedestrian corridors required in lots with more than 20 spaces20 spaces

    In lots that have more than 20 spaces, pedestrian corridors shall be implemented within the parking area to channel pedestrians from the car to the perimeter of the lot. A paving material that is different from that of the vehicular area shall delineate these corridors.

  • Sidewalk at perimeter of parking lot

    The parking lot shall be designed to allow pedestrians to safely move from their vehicles to the building. In order to achieve this, a sidewalk shall be placed at the perimeter of the lot.

  • Structured parking must be behind wall or facade

    Parking structures shall be located behind some kind of wall or facade, so that the cars and parking do not dominate the public street. The wall may be buildings, housing, shops, and natural features. Parking structures are encouraged to incorporate other uses at the street level in order to protect the street frontage. If a parking structure does not contain other uses, then it shall demonstrate a careful and respectful street elevation design.

  • Vegetation border for surface lots bordering street

    In areas where surface parking lots border the street edge, a vegetation border shall be established. This border may include grass, flowers, trees and hedges.
