- Exceptions to underground utility requirement
Overhead utility services existing as of the effective date of this section may be repaired, replaced, or increased in capacity; Underground service connections shall not be required where existing overhead distribution lines including poles, transformers, etc., are located across the street, provided however, that this does not waive the requirement for underground service for new subdivisions of three (3) or more lots or for developments where such service would otherwise be required, or for property abutting Route 54 and/or Route 1.

All new customer utility services, including but not limited to, all wires, cables, pipes, conduits, and appurtenant equipment, carrying or used in connection with the furnishing of electric power, telephone, telegraph, cable television, petroleum, gas, stream, water or sewer systems, shall, after the effective date of this article, be placed below the surface of the ground.
