- Allowed in industrial
Cargo storage containers are allowed in the IL, IG, and IW Industrial districts anywhere on a lot, except in required front and street side setback areas and in required parking and loading areas. Such containers shall be fully screened from view from public rights-of-way and adjacent residential and mixed use zoning districts with solid screening materials at least the same height as the storage containers. Transport storage containers shall not be stacked higher than two containers.
- Inactive items only
All personal storage facilities must be limited to inactive items. No retail sales, repair, or other commercial use can be conducted out of an individual rental storage unit.
- No hazardous materials
No storage of hazardous materials is permitted.
- One container for construction
One storage container shall be allowed on a lot in conjunction with an active construction project for which a building permit has been issued. The storage container must be removed prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy. An administrative use permit is required to place more than one storage container on a lot.
- Temporary use permit
Cargo storage containers may be allowed in residential and mixed use zoning districts with a Temporary Use Permit as a temporary use for up to one year. In order to approve a cargo storage container, the Zoning Administrator must find that: the placement of a container does not adversely affect access to and use of any required parking or loading space; is not located within a required setback area; and is screened from view from a public right-of-way and any adjacent residences by solid screening materials at least the same height as the storage container.
