CHAPTER 10.04 - DEFINITIONS

Chapter 10.04 - Definitions#

10.04.010 - Generally.#

The words and phrases set out in this chapter, when used in this division, shall, for the purposes of this division, have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter. Whenever any words or phrases used in this division are not defined in this chapter but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the State of California, such definitions shall apply.

10.04.020 - Holidays.#

"Holidays" means all Sundays, Thanksgiving Day and such other holidays as are established by ordinance or resolution of the city.

10.04.030 - Loading zone.#

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

10.04.040 - Official traffic control devices.#

"Official traffic control devices" means all signs, signals, markings and devices not inconsistent with this division which are placed or erected under lawful authority for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding traffic.

10.04.050 - Official traffic signals.#

"Official traffic signals" means all devices, whether manually, electrically or mechanically operated, by which traffic is alternately directed to stop and proceed and which are erected under lawful authority.

10.04.060 - Parking meter.#

"Parking meter" means a mechanical device installed within or upon the curb or sidewalk area, immediately adjacent to a parking space, for the purpose of controlling the period of time occupancy of such parking meter space by any vehicle.

10.04.070 - Parkway.#

"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

10.04.080 - Pedestrian.#

"Pedestrian" means any person afoot.

10.04.090 - Police officer.#

"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of this city or any officer authorized to direct traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

10.04.100 - Stop.#

"Stop" means complete cessation of movement.
